Be Happy With You

Have you ever known people who always compare themselves to someone else?  They judge their worth based on the success of other people.

“That person has more money than I do.”

“She drives a nicer car.”

“He lives in a better house than me.”

“Why can’t we have what they have?”

People who think like this are never happy with what they have.  They’re never happy with what they’ve accomplished.  They assume the other person is better because of the things they own or the job they have.

Do you find yourself thinking this way sometimes?  Many of us probably have those thoughts from time to time.  And in some cases it can be a motivator to help you accomplish some of your goals.

The problem comes when you let the success or possessions of the other person make you feel bad about yourself.

It can be even worse if you have a parent or a spouse who compares you to those other people.

“Why don’t you make as much as him?”

“How come you can’t have a job like her?”

“You should work as hard as him so you can buy us a house like that.”

If someone who’s supposed to be supportive of you constantly compares your success to someone else it can damage your self-esteem and make you doubt your own self-worth.

Instead of comparing yourself to someone else focus your energy on being the best person you can be.  Take an inventory of all your skills and abilities.  Make a list of all the things you have accomplished.  Look for ways to improve yourself based on what you want to get out of life.

Most of all, be happy with YOU.  You’re a unique individual and there’s no way to compare you to someone else, because there is no comparison.  There’s only one of you and there will be only one of you — ever.  Take pride in that.  Find the happiness inside you.  And don’t let someone else try to make you feel bad by comparing you to another.

To your happiness!
